Metal Art In Tucson

The top photo is a panel in a fence in an industrial area of Tucson.

I took the photo standing inside the fence looking out.  The pattern of the cutout was repeated over and over, and it sure looks cool!

Tucson has more metal art than any other city I've lived in.  Many of the gates, even in relatively modest homes, have wrought iron patterns of desert scenes and animals.  Others have cutouts similar to this one.  Some, like this, are a reverse cutout.  Others have the cutout itself worked into the gate.

The University of Arizona has some outsize metal art pieces.  One which comes to mind is near the new swimming facility on Campbell.

(And now that it's come to mind, wouldn't you know that I have no photo of it?!)

Just east of Gates Pass, the International Wildlife Museum has several life size bronzes outside, along with an outsize bronze lion which is four times (+/-) life size.

This life size elk is my favorite.

I am very fond of metal arts.  I've wanted to try metal sculpture many time.  Just never got around to it.  Perhaps some day.

It must be nice to live in an area that has so much to offer the eye.  Thanks again my friend for sharing.

Nice photo work, Mike!  I particularly like the panel in the steel fence - excellent composition and nice texture in the metal.

"The top photo is a panel in a fence in an industrial area of Tucson." It sure is. I had to go back and look at it again. Pretty cool photography there.

You make me wish I had stayed in Tubac a few years ago with your art photos. The Southwest is so artistic and I miss it.

Mike:  The metal fence is a great photo.  I love metal sculpture.  Made me think abot the grounds for  sculpture in Hamilton NJ where metal and all the sculpture is wonderful and whimsical.  Think I will do a post when the weather gets warmer and the trees blossom.  Thanks for the inspiration.:)

Hey Mike - What a fun post.  At first when I looked at your first photo, I thought I was looking at a shiny pice of metal on burl wood.  You sure fooled me.  It wasn't until you mentioned it was a cut out that I saw the cityscape through the cut out!  Way cool observation on your part and great photography angle.

Thanks for sharing!

Wonderful art. Do you have a lot of artists that specialize in metal?

There's a whole new complex being built where that cutout photo was taken.  It will house ten or more artists who work only in metal.  In addition, there are countless small businesses who make gates and fences out of steel and wrought iron right here in Tucson.

You're welcome; that was a fun photo!

I'll be looking for that post of yours.  Thanks for commenting.

Yes it is!  Tubac has grown tremendously as an artists' colony.

Thanks!  See you on your blog.

I appreciate the encouragement.  Like the hat too!

It certainly is, and you're welcome!

Thanks for saying so!

You would excel at it, I'm sure.

Thanks for being the first to comment.  I believe there's beauty everywhere we look, if we just focus.
