Zoning in 'Zona: Twilight in Tucson

Every once in a long while, and especially around the end of a day, there comes a magical time when all is quiet and everything seems at peace.

Tonight was such a night here in my little corner of Tucson, Arizona.

My Darlin' calls it "zoning in 'Zona."  As the sun drifted down toward the horizon, a gold hue painted the western sky.

That's not what caught my eye, though.

Over in the eastern sky, the reflected light from that same setting sun lit up a bank of clouds, turning them into pink cotton candy against the blue sky.

There is something special about the light here in the desert southwest.

Don't you think so?

LOL!

Bill,

Somehow I thought you might be the first to comment.  As I was uploading the photos, I thought to myself "Bill's going to like these!"

Mike,

You've got quite a collection of spectacular photos. You could do a great AZ calendar!

Beautiful Mike. Pink clouds....don'tcha just LOVE catching those photos? Do you live that close to the edge of the city, or have to drive there to capture these photos? I swear, if I lived in the foothills, I'd be seeing and taking much more. ;-)

Mike, that is one of the things that I like about the SW. The colorful sunrises and sunsets...

Carol,

I'll bet you think it's hot here.  Thanks for commenting; we may win you over anyhow.  :)

Bill,

Actually, it's your weather, just waiting for you to show up and claim it!

Don,

Thanks!!

Mike,

I took the photos at about 6:30 p.m.  The light was my friend.

View from Mike's back yardCJ,

Nope.  This is the picture right outside my back door.  That's Golden Gate mountain.  You see it in every John Wayne movie that includes saguaro cacti.

Diane,

I hear it's warming up in Forked River!  Tucson is really beautiful; you'll have to plan a visit.

View from Mike's back yard looking over the firepitMichael,

There's a lot to like here in the desert SW.  Thanks for commenting.

Teri,

We don't live in the city.  That photo above was taken right outside our back door.  So was the one to the right with the cactus flower.  You'll have to plan to visit!

Lynda,

Now there's an idea!  Thanks.

Gary - Absolutely gorgeous shots, as all your shots usually are.  Love thos pink clouds, on the blue sky, as a back drop for the green of the cactus.

I also want to thank you for the GREAT card you sent me with the picture of my tribe, and the one you lived with in SA.  You're very kind!

Reflected light from the setting sun (sun is behind me)Steve,

Isn't technology wonderful.  We couldn't afford to do half the photography we all do if we still had to buy and develop film.  I really like the reflected light.  Sometimes, like this photo with the sun at my back, it can be very dramatic.

Thanks for commenting!

Terry,

I know a loan officer who would be happy to fund your purchase of a second home in Tucson!

Myrl,

Thanks so much! It was fun making that card!
