Isabella's Ice Cream ~ Frozen By The Sun

Isabella's Ice Cream ~ Frozen by the sun; Mike in Tucson, AZ mortgage lender

~ Tucson's Most Fantastic Ice Cream! ~

Domenic and Isabella Johnson have the coolest ice cream truck I've seen in my life.  What you can't see in this photo is that the top of this truck is coated with solar cells which provide the electricity that keeps the freezer and all of that scrumptious ice cream cold.

Isabella served up the cold stuff at National Geographic's Bio-Blitz, here seen in the parking lot of the Red Hills Visitor Center of Saguaro National Park West.

My favorite flavor was Isabella's 'Brazilian Coffee.'  Mmm... Scrumptious!

Hi Mike,

It sounds like it drives on electricity as well.

That is very cool. WHen I saw the title, I wasn't sure how it was gonna work.

Posted by Melissa Zavala, Broker, Escondido Real Estate, San Diego County (Broadpoint Properties) about 9 years ago

So what were they charging?

Anything over a nickel* would be out of place for such an ice cream truck.

Thanks for sharing.

*Nickel, 1/20 of a dollar a coin once a long, long time ago used to buy things, some stores were even known as "nickel and dime stores."  Obsolete. colloquialy used to refer to the cost of ink and tonner ie: "They're nickle and dineing me to death!"

Hi Mike - This is a very unique ice cream truck and the experience to buy from it must be very interesting.

Great truck.  I can see why they would attract a good deal of business.

That is so awesome Mike! You wouldn't think a car of that size would have enough room to have a business in but I bet it is bigger then you think in there. Maybe someday when she expands she can get a storefront and then use the car as part of the front decoration! Maybe use it for catering too?

Hi Mike, I am sure I would have loved the Brazilian coffee flavor since coffee is my favorite when it comes to I cream. And that truck is so cool!

If you don't stop that truck to buy some ice cream then there is just something wrong with you.  Unless of course you are lactose intolerant...lol   Great photo!

I think we are just scratching the surface on the many ways that small businesses can be more environmentally responsible. Solar energy is becoming more "popular" in our Chester County area in recent years. I hope they are able to provide affordable alternatives to both the corporations and the small business owners to boost our local economy while being proactive about the world around us and the preservation of it. Thanks for sharing - great post!

That looks pretty nifty, I love the old time look to it. Definitly something that stands out, and what an ingenius idea about the solar panels, wow.

I wonder how much ice cream they can carry in there?  Does it work in the summer or just spring and fall?  (and winter, too?)
