~ Self Portrait of a Hiker ~
The Hugh Norris Trail is one of the premier attractions of Saguaro National Park's Tucson Mountain District. I didn't hike the entire trail last night; I started at 5:30 and hiked to an elevation where I could capture some of the last rays of sunlight.
The granite steps you see in the photo above were cut and places by men working for the CCC in the 1930s.
One generation's work is a blessing to the next, and I like to think of those men who worked to cut and shape the rock beneath my feet when I'm hiking this particular trail.
The Hugh Norris Trail overlooks the Red Hills Visitor Center from the ridge in the photo on the left. It's a magnificent view, looking down on the saguaro forest below, and it's something you might just want to add to your 'bucket list.'

HI MIKE! I love Saguaro East - it's probably time I come out and visit the west side! How perfect the colors are for this time of year!
very very pretty. We'll be driving back through tomorrow. Not sure what time, but it's around lunch time ... how far are you from I-10?
WOW!! Love both of those! What a beautiful sunset... I didn't notice the steps when I saw the photo before.
Doreen,
It was an uphill climb at sunset. Those steps were carved out of the native granite in the 1930s by CCC laborers.
Tammy,
It was a pleasure to have lunch with you and Don yesterday in Tucson! Safe travels home. Thanks for the mini-AR-meetup!
Gab,
It's a long way from your abode to SNP West!
