Tucson Mountain Park
~ Vandalism in Pima County's Tucson Mountain Park ~
(The Park abuts Saguaro National Park's Tucson Mountain District)
You may never have visited Tucson Mountain Park, but chances are that you've watched a John Wayne Western or two. It's probably the first time you saw a real (not neon) Saguaro Cactus.
That's Old Tucson Studios in the photo on the left. Old Tucson Studios is located within Tucson Mountain Park, and attracts visitors from around the globe. If they enter the park from Speedway and Gate's Pass Road, that graffiti-covered welcome sign above will be their first impression of this magnificent park. What a shame!
Towering over Old Tucson Studios is Golden Gate Mountain. You'll remember seeing it in the background at some time in every John Wayne Western. It's the mountain I see in my backyard every day.
Vandalism is a symptom of the lack of emphasis we as a society place on personal responsibility. Hey, it's not mine... I didn't pay for it...
Today I posted these photos and more on the Facebook Page "Tucson Mountain Park." Click the link and go there. You'll find the phone number for the Office of Pima County Supervisors and their email address. Call them and leave a message. Send an email. Make a difference!
If you ever watched a John Wayne western, or if you've ever visited the Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum (also within the confines of Tucson Mountain Park) please go there and express your outrage at the desecration of something which belongs to you.

I guess some young people have no respect for real beauty. I see that from time to time here, and for the most part it gets cleaned up pretty fastm usually by people who get caught doing it.
Mike
It's ashamed that some people people put so little value on other people's property.
Good luck and success.

Mike,
Sad photos...
But you reminded me of our visit to AZ and Old Tucson Studios in 1993.
My wife is a great John Wayne fan, and seeing the studios was great fun!
The town burned a few months later, as I recall. We had nada to do with it!!
Mike, UGH, vandalism is so senseless! It is so hard to understand why someone would want to do that.
Mike
Such a shame to see such a beautiful area vandalized. Why would someone bother?
Jeff
Jeff,
It's beyond me...
Marchel,
That's the truth!
Firebrand Mike,
They rebuilt Old Tucson, and you will enjoy your next trip. We live on the other side of the mountain, so call before you come, and we'll go with you!
Lou,
Yes, it is...
Larry,
They haven't been so fast here. I'm hoping that we'll light a fire under our County Commissioners with this post. Thanks for being the first to comment!

Don't know if these photos evoke anger or sadness. Either way it's a great waste.
These people need to be caught and arrested. Love thy parks
I am still heartsick over seeing the pictures. Good job on getting KVOA to report the story...and getting your mug on the screen.
It's the power of social networking. Facebook and Active Rain made it happen.
Harry,
Well said. Love thy parks!
Lenn,
I'm not sad for the bums. This is my backyard.

This just hurts my heart. I hope they catch the little monsters. Our parks are such a gift.
What a shame. I visited the park about 2 years ago. It is such a beautiful place. I hope they catch the bums and make them pay dearly!
HI MIKE! I know this is your backyard - I drove by and saw this beautiful sign days before it was trashed. I coulnd't believe it when I saw the first new flashes. These types always leave behind a trail and get caught.
I don't get it, why some people have to trash things; they obviously are troubled individuals and think little of themselves as well.
