Hey! Don't Be Taking Pictures of My Backside!

Gila Woodpecker: Mike in Tucson AZ mortgage lender

~ Gila Woodpecker Feeding Chicks ~

The Gila Woodpecker was feeding her little ones, and I was set up and taking photos.  She must not have liked it that I was taking pics of her rump as she disappeared into the "saguaro boot" because the very next thing she did was to yell at me!

Great pictures Mike.  Maybe she was complimenting you on your photographic skills?

Jim,

I don't know.  I think I was too close to her chicks for her comfort.  Thanks for being the first to comment!

Mike, I wrote a post on a pileated woodpecker in May. He was pecking away on his new home and did not have my camera with me when I saw him feeding his babies. But, alas, it is now empty he flew the coup or perhaps was foreclosed :)

Mike, Heard what she was saying and you could not put it in a public post! Love what you do with your excellent photos and the words to go along.

Have a great weekend.

Hi, Mike -- another nice set of photos.  I didn't check the temperature in Tucson today -- hopefully you were a few degrees cooler than we were in the Phoenix area.  A day when the snow on the Catalina's seems like a distant memory, right?!  Be well

She may have been tweeting aloud there was a voyeur in the neighborhood. Of course she might have simply been asking if those feathers make her look fat. Females...

Michael,

Could have been!  :)

Mike,

There's a thought.

Eric,

It was 110, but we visited the King Tut exhibit at the Rialto and stayed out of the heat.

Bob & Carolin,

You too!  Thanks.

Too funny, Mike.  Of course I could see my wife doing the same thing.  Thanks for the great pics.

Mike...to them, having a 12th floor high rise in the Cactus Arms is really normal high living and to think it is all free to those who just work hard for it...in this case, banging their heads against it until their home is formed. We do something similar, but sustain various injuries while doing so and injure others as well. There is a lesson or two there to learn...thank you for these thoughts....

Mike, too funny and always love coming over to see your photography. It makes it so much more fun when we add the photography angle to our work. I can't approach your skill but do appreciate it. Love the photos and as birders....especially enjoyed this post. Have a wonderful 4th.

Jeanean,

It's wonderful to run into birders in the Rain!

You're welcome!

Donald,

It just takes a little patience.

Taking a liberty with one of Anna Banana's  recent posts, that bird didn't want you to let the other birds know how smart it was, as a wide behind was offered as the accumulation of wisdom.

Awesome photos! This one really should get a feature!  The timing is priceless!  I am recommending this one.

Have you joined the group "BIRDS?"

At least the wind's not blowing up her feathers!  :)

Leilani,

You'll have to plan a visit!

Michael S,

No doubt!

Michael D,

Thanks for the "suggest."  Looks like it worked.

Ed,

I wasn't aware of that bit of wisdom.  :)

Kevin,

It's great to see you back in the Rain!  Ginny says "Hi!"

Interesting Mike.  My local woodpecker - the one who is my alarm clock each morning pecking away on the tin chimney caps, is shy.  Maybe she doesn't have any chicks to protect.

Birds can get cranky when you get too close to their chicks!

We had one in the bird house by the garden last year who deeply resented my presence in the garden. She never actually hit me, but she dive bombed my head on several occasions.

Juli,

I wonder why they beat against the aluminum caps and make such a racket?  They do that in our neighborhood too.
