Oro Valley Homes Come Complete With Gambel's Quail!

Home comes complete with Gambel's Quail: Mike in Tucson, AZ mortgage lender

~ Gambel's Quail ~

We had dinner Sunday afternoon with friends up in Oro Valley (NW of Tucson.)  After a scrumptious meal, we all sat outside taking in the view of Pusch Ridge.  I naturally had my camera with me.

It's spring in the desert, and this male Gambel's quail is looking for a mate.  Ignoring the humans completely, he strutted quickly through the yard, flew up to the wall that surrounds the yard, and found the highest spot - a post on the corner.

Puffing out his chest, he began to call, advertising his availability to the ladies.

Don't you like his head-dress?!

I love to watch birds. That's a really good shot you have there. I don't think I've ever seen that kind of quail before.

Lynda,

You're sure to see them everywhere if you visit Tucson!  Thanks for being the first to comment.

Mike, I have a family in my tree that sits right outside my home office window.  Their antics running up an down the tree are hilarious.  I'll try to catch them in the next couple of days, but I hate to disturb the ladies while they're nesting.

You certainly captured his mating strut. Did he capture any attention from the female species?

Margaret,

A minute or two after I took his photo, he flew off.  I was hoping to get a photo of a pair.

Juli,

I'm looking forward to seeing the photos!

Mike,

What a magnificent bird - truly a native representative for the area with a proud feather on top it's head! I've never seen one like that before, so thanks for the picture and the write-up!

This is a very nice post!

Mike,

What a great shot to log in to!

Nothing surprising about ignoring every thing else when looking for a mate!

Bill,

Amen to that!

Joe,

That "exclamation point" of a head-dress is really unusual, isn't it?

Patricia,

Proud he is!  :)

Gloria,

You're welcome!  I knew you would like this one.

Very nice look at the wildlife around your area.  I wonder how much his headdress costs.

Ooops.  When I saw "scrumptious meal" and "quail", I naturally thought. . . . .

Lenn,

There's a quail season here too.  And they ARE delicious!

We used to see a lot of quail in the northwest - we don't see so many of them anymore, I'm not sure why, but it's a shane we don't see them much....
