Crossing Guard On The Road to Onion Saddle in the Chiricuhuas

Crossing guard: Mike in Tucson, mortgage lender

~ Crossing Guard, Arizona Style ~

I'd never hiked the east face of the Chiricahuas until this past Saturday.  I met a friend at 5:00 a.m. at the Triple T Truck Stop on Interstate 10, and we drove east for two hours to the New Mexico line.  From there we drove south 1/2 hour on Route 80 until we came to the road to Portal, Arizona.  (Right you are; we had to drive west back into Arizona.)

Portal, Arizona isn't very big.  Maybe 60 people live there, and not all at once.  We stopped downtown to take a photo of the Post Office.

In the spring and summer, this place is a mecca for birders, and I wanted to scout it out.  I'll be back again in the spring.

Looks like he's staked out his position.  Spring time sounds like a better idea.. :)

Great pictures, Mike. I love your remark "not all at once", do they take turns living there, is it that small?  :0)

I can see several posts coming soon about Portal AZ.  It looks like an interesting place.

Right you are!  We had a great day, and the camera didn't spend much time in its case.

Thanks for being the first to comment!  See you on your blog.

The Chiracahuas are one of my favorite spots in Arizona.  Of course, I have about 15 favorite spots - but I love how it looks like a giant hand just sort of scattered boulders...

Mike, I'm putting this on my list of places to see in Arizona, for sure.  Just not when that white stuff is on the ground, LOL.  Love the photos.

Mike, I think he/she is totally checking you out.  Those cocked ears say "what in the heck are you doing"?
