BIMBO In Bed With Sara Lee!

Bimbo Logo: Mike in Tucson, Mortgage LenderMoving from New Jersey to Tucson, AZ a dozen years ago was a culture shock.

In Tucson, as contrasted with my NJ experience,

  1. rivers have no water in them most of the time.
  2. people at WalMart dance joyously in the rain at the beginning of the monsoon season instead of running frantically for the shelter of their cars.
  3. the summer work day for construction workers begins at 3:00 a.m. (a shock when there's a house being built next door)
  4. and bread is labeled BIMBO!

If you don't live near the Mexican border, you may not know that Mexico's BIMBO (Grupo Bimbo, SAB) is the world's largest bread maker.

You will no doubt recognize some of the BIMBO brands, though...

  • Thomas's English Muffins
  • Entenmann's cakes and pastries
  • Mrs. Baird's breads

...and now...

  • Sara Lee's North American bakery business, for which BIMBO paid nearly one billion dollars.  Included in the sale are 41 plants and 13,000 employees.

Real Estate Connection

13,000 employees?  No doubt, some of them are management.  Expect a shake-up there.  It might provide you with some real estate business you hadn't anticipated.

Mike, $1 billion?  That's an expensive BIMBO...

That's interesting, I didn't know Bimbo's owned these companies and I eat alot of their products.  Maybe they will move to Austin, I pay referrals.

Wow, I missed that story, about the buyout.  Hey, I know some great agents in Tucson I can refer you to, LOL.

Tell your Mom I said "Hi!"  :)

Do they have a plant or a distribution point in Austin?  Google could tell you...

I'm pretty sure that they will have management in the NYC area, and you're not that far away...

Hi Mike,

I lived near a Wonder Bread bakery in Dallas for years. One day, it became a BIMBO bakery. The tarts smelled the same though. ;)

Mike, Binbo bakeries?  I love Entenmans's and Thomas' English Muffins!  And if Wonder Bread tasted as great as it smells in the bakery, I might eat the stuff.

That is a lot of dough in my opinion. Yes, the word BIMBO means something else on the East Coast. Thanks for the heads up on this one. Amazing!

Hi Mike... Mrs. Baird's bread and cinnamon rolls (a Texas company) has never been quite the same to me since they were purchased by Bimbo.  Interestingly, the former Mrs. Baird's bakery in Dallas will soon be the site of the G.W. Bush prsidential library.

Very interesting.  I had no idea.  I think one of my cousins was the Brand manager for Thomas's English muffins.

Mike, thanks to Pat Kennedy for sending me here. What a great title for a post, very creative I have to say. Nope, I can be assured that these 2 now being in bed together will not affect my real estate, but it should be good for those of you who live around Bimbo!

That is a very funny name, LOL. That is one where people will say... what were they thinking? without knowing they are from another country. But what were they thinking??????

Mike, what could you expect BIMBO to pay for SaraLee, after all hasn't it always been known that 'Nobody doesn't like Sara Lee!'  That is still on very expensive coffee cake.

Hey, Mike, what exit?  I've lived in 2 NJ areas where we don't have highways with exit numbers so I'm just joshing!

OMG, Sara Lee is now a Bimbo. This has been the year of the merger. Thanks for the post, never heard of bimbo bread.

Mike, I had no idea either.  It's fun to read about these companies--thanks for the info.

Thanks for your thoughtful comments!

@Jeanine, your comment would have made a great title for this blog: "OMG, Sara Lee is now a Bimbo."  LOL

Bimbo?  Who knew?  Just goes to show how one's perspective can change.

Well, Bimbo would have to be in bed with somebody, so why not Sara Lee - how do you think of these things???

Had no idea who they were until reading your post !!! Hey did I see where Tucson is getting a Triple A baseball team next season ????

Yes we are!  I don't know how long it will last, though.  Our town council has a way of driving good businesses away from Tucson.

I look at a photo, and the ideas start coming one right after the other.  LOL

Thanks for stopping by to comment.
