Saturday Afternoon Hike in the Desert: Monsoon Rainbow

Monsoon rainbow: Mike in Tucson

Saturday Afternoon Hike in the Desert

Saguaro Petroglyph: Mike in TucsonLast Saturday, my Darlin and I had our toes in the Pacific Ocean.  This Saturday found me hiking in the desert near Ironwood National Monument in Red Rock, AZ.

The monsoon rains have just made their appearance, and today, the rain chased me back down off the hill where I was photographing petroglyphs, and back to my car.

As the wall of rain moved west, the afternoon sun created the most beautiful full rainbow!  I thought you might like to share it with me.

Terrific photo -- we have not had any rain up here yet -- only humidity - but likely we'll see the monsoons soon.

Such a beautiful rainbow picture.  I never seem to have my camera at the ready when one appears.  We could use some rain out this way as we're about to go into drought conditions.  Is that an indian carving on the rock picture?  Thanks for sharing.  Sue of Robin and Sue

Mike I have a special interest in mountain photography, yours is striking and I love the cactus we don't get to see them in the north east.

I still remember when I bought the little Green Valley house with my friend Jean, a super nice real estate lady that gave us a tour and taught me the basics of desert life:  The names of the plants, the names of the birds, that monsoon season starts around July 4 and ends around Labor Day....  :-)

Mike I love the pics!  It's nice to see different parts of the Country here on Active Rain, Thanks for sharing and have a great day!

Hi Mike -

Nice shot.  Not too many people know of, or visit Ironwood National Monument.  I have been there on foot as well as flown around it a few times for some aerials because I thought it was a special place.  Thanks for sharing.

How beautiful!  What a nice way to spend the day....We have been threatened by the rain, however, it seems to have missed our neighborhood.  Can't wait till it finally does!  We will have to check out the Ironwood National Monument next time we are up North.

Beautiful...I too am enjoying some pretty scenes. Up at our cabin in Lake Arrowhead...and we have some rain clouds and pretty skies, but I can't seem to capture them like you do. Thanks for the Sunday inspiration.

I cannot wait for the monsoon storms to hit. When I first moved to AZ, I lived in Tucson and was in awe of the wind and lightning storms! I love seeing your photos.

Love that pic.  It is sort of an odd combination to see the rainbow which I associate with RAIN and the cactus which I associate with NO RAIN, lol.  I have some great pics but dont ever seem to post enough of them to my lethbridge commerical real estate blog here at active rain.

There is something about the raibow that catches the eye and makes you want to photograph it or at least take a break and enjoy the beauty.  Great photo and I love the rainbow-cactus combo!
