Wildlife Up Close and Personal in Tucson

Mike in Tucson: Running Deer

My Darlin' looked at the photo above and commented that it looks like a Kangaroo!  Nope.  I'm taking photos with my old camera, and it's slooow...

The temperature this afternoon topped 105 degrees down in the Tucson basin, and was close to 100 here on the slope of Golden Gate Mountain. The doe knew where she could get a long, cool drink.

I opened the slider in the kitchen four inches, and the doe ignored me.  She just kept drinking that cool, clear water!  Emboldened, I opened the door a little wider and stepped out on the ramada.  She twitched one ear toward me, and I got a close-up.  Then she bolted!

Our little community of Tucson Estates 2 snuggles right up on Tucson Mountain Park, which in turn abuts Saguaro National Park West.

The surrounding Tucson Mountains drain through washes, or arroyos, that run through our community.  These washes are highways for the wildlife that grace us with their presence on a regular basis.

If you'd like to live in a beautiful neighborhood, surrounded as we are by cultural and natural wonders, call your favorite Tucson REALTOR, or call me and I'll refer one!

Mike, my heart would have been beating a 1,000 beats per minute trying to take in the doe AND get the picture. Congrats on getting the pic.

Mary,

This is the first time I've seen the doe.  Ginny saw it for the first time last week, and now the doe makes a regular stop at night.  This photo series was taken around 6:30 Sunday evening.

Your backyard is so inviting.  That's why all those critters show up to have their photo taken.  ;-)

I thought it was a kangaroo, too.

What is a ramada?

HA!  That "white tail" makes these friends easity to identify.  They visit my home regularly.

Lenn,

We have both Whitetail and Mule Deer here in Tucson.  Back in New Jersey, where we lived more than a decade ago, the only species was the Whitetail.  I'll bet yours love munching on your flowers!

Virginia,

A ramada is a covered back porch.

Doreen,

You're welcome any time!  Give us a call.

I love that blurry picture...it looks like you put the photo through some photoshop technique to get the look.  Your yard is a nature paradise.  What a wonderful place to sit and relax...beautiful!

Sharon,

No photoshop technique.  I was just swinging the camera up and to the right as I was clicking the shutter.  The fastest aperature for this camera is 1/8th of a second.  Serendipity!
