Fulfilling Today's Objectives: Tucson Roadrunner Camo

Roadrunner Camo

He doesn't look anything like his cartoon counterpart.  He doesn't say "Meep Meep!"  Instead of running away, he follows the coyote around from time to time, knowing that the coyote is likely to stir up a meal or two.

This roadrunner is totally aware of his surroundings, and knows how to hide in plain sight in order to accomplish his dual objectives:  survival and a meal.

Funny thing:  those are my two objectives this morning!

Mike,

WoW, that guy is so well camouflaged......very interesting photo! Fist time I've ever seen a picture of a roadrunner (he looks nothing like his cartoon counterpart).

Mike,

I am thinking that their is a lesson here that we can learn from Mr. Roadrunner.

Don,

Me too!  Thanks for stopping by.

Jo,

They're a really interesting bird, and we love to see them.

Susie,

Thanks for being the first to comment; you're getting a LOT of snow according to the Weather Channel.  Stay warm.

Nice photo (as always) but those are not our favorite birds at all - we have watched them gobble up defenseless little baby birds - 5 at a time in about 3 seconds -- not a pretty sight!

How on earth did you see him.  It took me a while.  There's your trusty camera again.

How did you know he was there?  He is pretty well hidden, not sure I would have seen him.  Good job, Eagle Eye!

Doreen & Jane,

You both asked the same question.  I had been watching him earlier, and knew he was there, so the rest was easy.  It was early morning, and he just posed for the picture!

Carolin,

I've seen them chase down little Gambels Quail chicks and make short work of them too.  I don't mind so much when they eat lizards and snakes.

BarbaraJo,

It's sitting on the rockin the middle of the photo.  It's two feet long from beak to tail, and the tail is hanging down vertically.
