Warmth & Beauty In Green Valley, Arizona! Bring Your Camera!

Sierrita Mine, west of Green Valley, AZ

Map of the Green Valley, AZ area

Can you believe this is a January landscape?

Mining is just another part of the landscape in Arizona, and it's one of the state's major employers.  The terraces above are part of the Sierrita Mine, located just west of the town of Green Valley, AZ

To the east of Green Valley is one of the most beautiful parts of the Coronado National Forest, the Santa Rita Mountain Range.

It includes my favorite hiking area, the Mount Wrightson Wilderness. I can get there in 35 minutes from my home.

Located less than 40 miles from Mexico, the Mt. Wrightson Wilderness attracts birders from around the world.

The reason?  As spring approaches, many Central American species of birds migrate north through Mexico to Arizona, and they nest in the Madera Canyon / Mt. Wrightson Wilderness area.

The one in the photo below is called the Elegant Trogon.  The dark cape around the head is emerald green, and the lighting in my photo doesn't do it justice.

Call to Action:

Come and visit!  Bring your binoculars and your camera.  And don't forget to let me know you're coming!

And one last thing ~ Thanks for subscribing to my blog!

Hi Mike, Stunning Photos. I can't recall ever seeing a Trogon before. Quite a beautiful bird and handsome photo.

William,

Thanks for being the first to comment!  Cheryl Johnson has a rental in Green Valley; you might want to plan a vacation soon.

Lynda,

Thanks for your kind words!

Liz,

It does look like the mountains were photoshopped in behind the Sierrita Mine, doesn't it?  Not the case, though.  I used the optical zoom, it was just at sunset with the sun behind me, and the mountains in the background are 50 miles away.

Arizona is so great. It's an awesomely beautiful and scenic place with no rival. It really has a character all it's own.

Mike - that is a magnificent landscape. I had no idea about the birds - very cool. And the photo is amazing. A neat bit of information about your neck of the woods.

Ah!  The migrating bird.  We have wonderful "honking" flocks of Canadian Geese around all winter long.

Lenn,

So far, we've been spared the honking horde of geese.  LOL

Michael,

I'll be looking forward to your visit!

Jeff,

There's controversy about opening a closed mine in the Santa Ritas northeast of the one pictured in the photo, but the area needs jobs.  I wanted to highlight the fact that even a mine can be visually interesting.

Tony,

Thansk for stopping by!

Douglas,

Come on down!

Debi,

We accept snowbirds.  LOL

David,

Yes it does!  Eloquent comment!

Sharon,

I took that top photo this past week, but the Elegant Trogon photo is from last spring.  They should start showing up again in April.

Tony,

Next time, please call; I love to meet Rainers when they're in town.

Cheryl,

Back at 'cha!

Holy Cow!  Beautiful!  I love how you have three totally different 'things' in view.  What are the flowers in the foreground?

Doreen,

The red in the foreground on the right is a variation of prickly pear cactus.

Oh, OK.  Looked like flower petals when I saw it last night.  Now I see that it is farther from you than I first thought.
