Speechless Sunday: Moonrise In Northern Arizona's Verde Valley (Part 1)

Moonrise in Northern Arizona's Verde Valley

Okay.  Not totally speechless...  although the view from the train was more than magnificent!  The awesome beauty of Arizona's "other Grand Canyon" made for one of the most memorable Christmas season's I've seen in six decades!  I'll share more with you in this week preceding the new year.

We're blessed to live in Arizona!

EDIT: Verde Canyon Railroad: Get Acquainted With Northern Arizona's Verde Valley (Part 2) - 12/28/09

Wow!  The moon looks gigantic in that shot.  Very cool.

Posted by Bruce Brockmeier, Coached By Crouch (Internet Marketing Consultant to REALTORS®) over 9 years ago

Bruce,

Thanks for being first to comment.  The train travelled through some very deep canyons, and several of us spent time anticipating where the next moon shot would present itself as we wended our way back from Perkinsville to Clarkdale.  This was my favorite!

Mike,

The color and the ruggedness of the mountain is so striking. Then add in the moon. Wow. :)

I am really a fan of the landscape in your area and it's obviously a wonderful place for hiking and exploring. I really like this shot of a late moon! nice work!

Posted by Russell Lewis, Broker,CLHMS,GRI (Realty Austin, Austin Texas Real Estate) over 9 years ago

It reminds me of the moonrise I saw recently, partially obscured by clouds that made me realize why people report seeing flying saucers.

Interesting.

I'm fascinated by the "strata" in the rock formations.

I want to know what cataclysmic forces caused them to form.

Posted by Monique Hailer, South West Florida & Southern Maryland Homes (Schooner Bay Realty., Inc. & CENTURY 21 New Millenniun) over 9 years ago

Monique,

It's not fake.  Here's another.  I took several in quick succession as the train moved along at a stately 10 mph.  Thanks for asking, tho.

Caron,

Thanks for reblogging!

Larry,

Two days before our trip, they had overcast skies as a snowstorm moved through the area.  By Saturday, Dec 26th, we had severe clear skies!

John,

I agree!  The shot couldn't have been better IMHO, unless I had a full instead of a waning moon.

Gerry,

There's more to come.  Check out my blog this evening (12/28)

Wow, that is amazing! Please tell me the train wasn't moving though while you took this? I'd be curious to know what camera you're using? I've been playing around with a Nikkon D40 and it's still not delivering the quality I'd like. It's probably more the user than equipment though ;-)
