Arizona's Gift: The Capitol Christmas Tree For 2009

The Capitol Christmas Tree on its way to DC stops in Oro Valley, AZArizona's gift to the nation, the 2009 Capitol Christmas Tree, stopped this weekend in Oro Valley, Arizona.

A signature that will go to the White HouseOro Valley is one of Arizona's newest success stories, with wide streets, beautiful subdivisions and shopping centers that eclipse most of what quiet old Tucson has to offer.

The tree, 65 feet tall, will be trucked to the White House, where it will be put on display shortly after Thanksgiving.

People came from all over to put their signatures on the side of the vehicle.  This little guy, seven years old, didn't have a pen, but my Darlin' took care of that.

Posing for the camera. I had to get in on the act, and I made sure Active Rain got to go along for the ride.  It's faint, but it's there!

Mike in Tucson and Active Rain go along for the rideWhen the tree is set up and tricked out with lights and decorations for Christmas in our nation's capitol, I'm expecting that one of you Active Rainers in the DC area will take a photo or two and post on your blog about Arizona's Gift, the Capitol Christmas Tree for 2009.

Hi Mike, That's really cool!

I recently traveled to Arizona for the first time-I know, I live in New Mexico, I oughtta get out more- and I was surprised by all the Ponderosa pines on the way to Phoenix.

I thought you'd be sending a Christmas Cactus!

Hi Mike, How wonderful that the tree this year is from your home state. While most might think of Arizona as a desert state , this tree also helps to educate that your topography is mixed with numerous temperate zones. Well done.

Mike,

It's a  nice post. Reminds me of a weekly paper.

Sorry, but what also came to mind was San Fransisco should donate a congress woman to play the top angle for a few weeks.

Mike - what a great idea. It would have been fun to see live, but this was about as good as it gets. Thanks for sharing. Guess I'm surprised to hear the tree is from AZ, though.

Jeff,

So was I!

Bill,

Wouldn't that ruin the effect?  LOL

William,

After I read your comment, I edited in a link to the website for the tree.  Check it out.

Rich,

A Christmas Saguaro?  LOL

Sandra,

I'm glad you saw it!  Thanks for being the first to comment.

Yeah Arizona! We spend time every year in the White mountains and I always marvel at the green of the pine trees against the background of the clear blue sky.

That is really cool and very exciting that you included all of us.  Now when I watch the lighting of the tree I will be thinking of you!

Sharon,

I wish I had brought a wide-stripe magic marker; I didn't know we would be able to sign the side of the truck!

Deanne,

Ain't it the truth!

Michael,

Not only the flora and fauna, either.  We're the most geologically diverse state in the Union, someone told me.

Karen,

We'll be looking for your post!

Rich,

I know you will; thanks for commenting.

Hi Mike - How fun and exciting! I've never seen the Capital Christmas Tree en route to it's destination.  Glad your goal would have been a magic marker and not spray paint ;-)

Mike,

Not all gifts are pretty.

It's the thought that counts.

Thanks for this post, Mike.  You did the work so we didn't have to.  And now Rich is going to show it going up in D.C.  Good to see Ginny too!

Nice story Mike...  Do you know where the tree was located?  White Mountains? Flag?  I never heard the original location.  Great photos and I'm sure you'll get a shot of it once it's at the Capitol...
