Parting Gesture: This Saguaro Finally Had Enough!

This saguaro seems to be giving a "parting gesture."

Who knows what goes on in the mind of a Giant Saguaro?  Forced to stand in one place, decade upon decade, they endure the indignities of life in stoic silence. That's got to be hard.

It takes a desert saguaro a long time to grow arms ~ seventy-five years to be exact.

You see a lot of "stuff" in seventy-five years, and it's got to be hard when you can't just speak your mind.  Let it all out.  Rant!

Like I said, "Who knows?"  Who knows what indignity or injustice finally caused this particular saguaro over the edge mentally?

It's obvious that something set him off.  The trouble is this:  now that he's summoned the courage to "speak his mind," it's going to take another seventy-five years to change it.

Be careful what you say to your customers, co-workers and clients today.  Once you've said it, it's difficult to take it back.

Nice picture.  Nice adage.  I think he kind of looks like he's in a boxing stance.  With his dukes up!

I think that saguaro is floating like a butterfly and stinging like a bee!

cool picture - I love visiting down there and seeing all of these old giants.  The moral of the story - take the higher ground and don't burn bridges?

Hi Mike, Nice picture. Thanks for sharing.

Too funny. I always feel bad for the cacti that have been peppered with golf balls right in front of a tee box.

It's amazing what you can see in nature if you just take the time to look.

Mike - it's obviously those big warts up and down his body that he is upset about. Good analogy though.

Mike S,

My grandpa used to call 'em "boils."  They look as if they're about to erupt!

Mike,

The personification of plants usually takes place after dark. Thank goodness it was still light! In the shadows this one would be either scarey or offensive. No make that scarey and offensive! Growing up in the 50"s and coming from the Midwest to the deserts around Las Vegas it was hard to forget all those post bomb test movie mutants!

Thanks for another enjoyable moment.

You know to me that looks like a Saguaro's version of an elephants' tusks. That's one skinny elephant. Great photo.

Russel,

We're just culturally insensitive, I guess.  LOL

Michael,

Now there's a new perspective!

Jane,

Reminds me of a rude gesture I've seen in the Italian neighborhoods of Philadelphia.
