Is it an island in the midst of a calm sea at sunset? Nope!
Light deceives the eye, and at dusk, this Arizona copper mine looks almost ethereal, doesn't it?
Look closely at the bottom edge of the photo, and you'll see buildings at the base of the copper mine. The tailings wrap around the hill that stands above the horizon.
I captured this photo just after sunset this evening, standing on Sentinel Hill among rocks decorated with petroglyphs 1,000 years old. Sentinel Hill is part of Saguaro National Park West. This view is to the north.
Doesn't this make you want to visit Arizona? Call me.

Congrats on being #1 in Arizona --- you passed me by a long time ago --- keep it going and hang onto the top seat!!
Hi Mike! The colors are so rich that I want to squeeze them through my fingers...but alas, the bottom edge of the photo is too dark for me to see the buildings. Probably my computer setting.
Sherry,
They're right above and between the words "at sunset." Thanks for commenting.
Carolin,
You and Bob have been an inspiration since I signed up in July of 2007 as a newbie. Thanks!!

Nice photo, Mike. Are you ever without your camera?
Mike,
Ethereal? That's an optical esoteric. Words aside that's a photo worth the walk.
Bill
BEAUTIFUL photo Mike. It reminds me a bit of the sights of the steam that 'erupts' on the Big Island as the hot lava flows into the Pacific.
Susie,
Thanks! I can see that.
Bill,
Love your choice of words!
Judi,
Not unless I forget to take it, and even then, I will likely turn around to go back and get it.

Mike, interesting photo. I always find it interesting how the camera interprets what we see. I guess that is why they call it the art of photography...
Mike, What a shot! I guess capturing a vista like that means being in the right place at the right time! Never been to Arizona - maybe it's time to check it out...
To answer your question, I would not believe that the picture was one of an Open Mine. You do have a real talent sir.
Don,
Thanks for commenting. I really like this particular image.
Pat,
You would love it. Snowbirds come in the winter to escape snow and ice.
Michael,
I appreciate the way you put it. There's a panorama all around us, and the camera finds one particular frame...

Mike,
That's crazy, I wouldn't have even caught it had you not pointed it out. Great shot.
Wow, that is beautiful. Who would have thought that mining could produce such beauty in their "tailings."
Maria,
There's magic in the light at dusk during the Monsoon season.
Brian,
I love this shot! Thanks for commenting.

Doesn't make me want to visit Arizona, but does make me want to visit Arizona AGAIN!
Russel,
That's the spirit!
