Tucson, AZ: Tucson Mountain Sanctuary, Full Moon Setting

Saguaro Full Moon by Mike in Tucson

Tucson Mountain Park's entrance is only a mile or so from the community of Tucson Mountain Sanctuary.

I'm up and out at five thirty in the morning, and dawn's breaking in the east.  In the western sky, the full moon is setting over this canyon wall.  The coolness of the desert night is still with us, especially down on the canyon floor, and the sandy wash where I'm walking is easy on the feet.

By noon, the summer temperature will have soared to 103 degrees, but at 5:30 a.m. this might as well be another world -- a magical world for Tucsonans who, like me, are early risers.

Tucson Mountain Park is one of those very special places on the planet.  Make plans to come visit.  Who knows?  You just might make Tucson Mountain Sanctuary your second home.

You've done iy again!

Do you walk all night?

Or all day?

To get the great sunsets then the moon setting?

Mike - that looks like a big soap bubble being supported by the cactus.  Very imaginative composition!  Love it!  And who knows ... my Tuscon Vacation envelope is getting bigger by the day!

Beautiful!  When it's so hot and we wonder what we're doing here....It's this sight that reminds us.

Mike, awsome photo!

What a great photo!  It could almost be a bubble in a terrarium, if you use a little imagination!

Mike - I love the picture, and I'm like you an early riser. However In th desert, it pays to be up early while the weather is cool.

Hi Mike: Question . . . Do the Cacti in Arizona always point to the moon?

I love the photo and the angle you took it from.   It gives the illusion that the moon is resting on top of the cactus.   :)

Great time to be up walking before the heat. I guess that is why the invented the siesta during the heat of the day.

That's some really good photography, Mike. I have been to Phoenix, Flagstaff and Grand Canyon but not Tucson...yet.

Whoops!  You snuck in there and commented while I was responding.  Thank God for the EDIT button!  I appreciate that little word "yet."  :)

I never thought of that, but I'll bet you're right about the afternoon siesta!

It does, doesn't it?!

It's going to make the list for my Send Out Cards "Picture Plus."  Thanks for commenting.

Not always.  The saguaros are upright, but we have other cacti which run along the ground, up trees, and then down to the ground again.  The Night Blooming Cereus is one like that.

You're welcome!  Thanks for sending him my way.

Larry B,

That it does!

I like to use imagination in composing my photos, and a bubble in a terrarium fits the bill!

Tony & Darcy,

Thanks, you two!

Don't forget to bring your camera!

Thanks for stopping by to comment!  See you soon on your blog.

That's good to hear.  Keep saving those vacation dollars!

Thanks for being the first to comment.  In the summer, it's either early morning, or after the sun goes down.  I knew you would like this one.

Hi Mike,

You have a real talent and obvious love for what you do. Your photos are truly spectacular and by no means is this one anything less!

Btw, thanks so much for the kindness of your call to my office a few weeks ago on that loan program.

Very nice picture Mike. I have to revisit the high desert sometime soon. I really enjoy the area. It is on my bucket list of things to do...

I guess that the nut doesn't fall too far from the tree... your Dad was an early morning daily walker and said it was the very best part of the day, spending it with the Lord and his beautiful creations.  Keep it up and thanks for sharing your beautiful moments.

Pop would have liked this photo, wouldn't he?  Mom too.

I'll be walking 3.5 miles this evening to round it out to an even 100 miles.  :)  Thanks for stopping by to comment.

Beautiful photograph!  We have friends in Tucson and have visited several times, permitting us to enjoy some of the fantastic dessert 'scapes.  Our son is currently attending the University of Advancing Technology in Tempe, so while visiting him we've also been able to take some early morning walks on South Mountain.   Ah, Arizona!

It's a beautiful state, isn't it!

It does look like a painting, doesn't it?!

I saw that picture when you showed me yesterday. If the loan business gets too boring for you then photography may be a great new business.
