Serendipity: The Right Place At The Right Time, +/- 1/1,000th of a Second

Bee flying in front of butterfly

Butterfly in my back yard. The bee is in flight, while the butterfly is at rest.  The Texas Ebony trees in our back yard are in bloom, and the fragrant blossoms attract clouds of these translucent pale butterflies.  I was trying to capture a butterfly, and the bee flew into the picture just at the "right" time.

Some business is like that.  Successful transactions that take place because (1) you were prepared, (2) you were in the right place, and (3) you were there at just the right time.

I think it was Zig Ziglar that defined success as the place "where preparation meets opportunity."  I hope your preparation pays off in spades today!

Tony & Darcy,

Thanks!

Bill,

I imagine he may have.  I've just come across some old recordings of Napoleon Hill from the early 50s, and I'm enjoying his take on sales!

Katerina,

Pure luck!

Bruce,

Thanks!

Gary,

Me too!  Thanks for being the first to comment.

Morning Mike, Now that's a cool photo!!! Love the positive commentary you provided, thanks.

I'm aiming to get a better camera than my current point and shoot by Christmas. Then maybe after a billion years practicing I can take quality photos also!

Michael,

You're welcome; thanks for commenting.

Cynthia,

Mine's not expensive.  It's a Panasonic Lumix w/10X optical zoom.  You can get it at Costco for around $200.

Konnie,

I set the camera to take 3 photos in quick succession.  Yesterday I must have taken 75 photos in 20 minutes.  Eight or ten turned out well, and the one with the bee in flight was a gift!

Judi,

It does tickle me!  And I do have a round tuit somewhere...  LOL

Larry,

To say the least!

Jesse,

That's the ticket sometimes.  Its good to see you!

GOOD MORNING MIKE!  It is such a good feeling when everything just works and ends up better than we expect!  What an amazing shot to catch the bee on the backdrop of the white butterfly! -- Gab

Posted by Gabrielle Kamahele Rhind, Broker/Owner (KGC Properties LLC, Tucson Property Management & Real Estate) about 10 years ago

Gab,

It's a hungry bee, too.  Notice that there's no pollen anywhere on it.  The only other shot I've taken that was so "split-second" was at the Desert Museum, when I captured a Desert Bighorn ewe in mid-air when she jumped down from a high rock perch to a lower one.

Amazing!  I know it was luck that the bee flew in the picture, but even so, not everyone would have ended up with such a great quality picture.  It's so cool!

Mike, a super big thank you for the intel on the camera! I've been making a list as to what everyone here uses and have been reading in the photography group as well.

Mike, Timing is everything.  The shot is incredible and often the type of things that I never have my camera around for.  Just beautiful.

Posted by Michael and Cheron Lange, Associate Broker, GRI (Solutions Real Estate) about 10 years ago

Cheron,

Thanks!  It was luck, but it couldn't have happened if the shutter was closed.  And I find that writing gets easier with time.  This was blog #600 or so.

Margaret,

If that's true, it's only because my finger hits the shutter more often, I think.  I discard twenty photos for every one I keep.  And as for the quote, I think Ziglar rephrased Napoleon Hill by pointing the index finger of both hands at the audience in his signature "watch me" pose, and thundering "SUCCESS is when..." Thanks for commenting!

Carol,

Most of the photos I took that morning were "POOF! ... nada!"  LOL

Fran,

You just need to develop a little callus on the end of your "say cheese" finger.  :)

Great picture! It's surprising that we have a lot of year-round blooming plants out here, but finding a good butterfly, dragonfly, etc., is not easy. I'm still looking, though.
