Silly Saturday Night Post: Stuck Between a Rock and a Hard Place

Stuck between a rock and a hard placeEvery once in awhile I'm lucky enough to get a photograph that perfectly illustrates the kind of predicament life can serve up.

This box turtle was doing just fine lumbering along in four wheel drive until she topped that last branch and ended up tail down between a rock and a hard place.

Box turtles are famous for pulling in their head and appendages and "clamming up."

This one didn't do that.  She seemed to know that she needed help from outside that pretty shell, and she just waited until I picked her up and set her down again.

Off she went.

Many of you have helped me during the past two years in the Rain, and I appreciate each of you.

This forum of bloggers is the very first place I go when I'm stuck, and you always come through.

Thank you, Active Rainers!

Mike - Great shot. I also look to the rain to solve problems that seem to be unusual at the time. I've been saving turtles in the road lately. They start across and then pull back into their shell when cars star to pass. It seems to be a daily occurrance right now.

This reminds me of when I saw a turtle crossing the road and also saw an oncoming truck that I just knew would smash the little guy. I slammed the brakes, jumped out and tried to get the turtle out of the road. Well, the ungrateful little guy tried to bite me!! I helped him out of the road anyway (carefully!). All ended well, but it is similar to life in real estate.... I still try to help the ones who are ungrateful. I move on through life knowing I helped them despite of their lousy attitude!

Shelby,

When I was a kid in college, I was riding a dirt bike across an earthen dam.  Half way across was a big snapping turtle.  I stopped.  He wasn't going to move.  I nudged him softly with my front tire to get him to move.  That big head came around faster than greased lightning, and he sank his jaw into the side of my tire.  I walked all the way home, pushing that motorcycle.  The turtle never did leave his position as captain of the dam!

Dan,

Yes it does.  :)  Thanks for commenting.

Your turtle reminds me of Jonathan - the last thing that he did was to build his son a wonderful turtle on Longboat Key, Florida, which we named BOB.  Now, as you know Ryan just loves BOB's.  I loved your photo and how cool was that - that you happened to be in that spot and rescue him.  I think Jonathan's giving you a helping hand.  Love Ya, Sis-in-law.
