Edit: It's 10:00 p.m. and I was able to upload a photo! Yay!!
I've got some great photos and stories to share from the past week. One in particular... I was walking a desert road on Sunday night, with reflective fabric and a flashlight. There was no moon.
If I see ten cars during a six mile walk, it's a lot. Each time a car approaches, I'll step off the road and shine the flashlight backwards toward the approaching car so I don't get waffled.
Three miles from home in Tucson Mountain Park, I heard a car approach. As I moved off the road, I heard the car slow down. It didn't pass me. Blue and red lights reflected off the surrounding cactus.
"Evening, officer" I said. "I was only going four miles an hour." I was already reaching for my ID.
Another Pima County Sherrif's car approached from in front (we're in the middle of the desert) and made a U-turn and parked behind the first car, whose deupty was running my ID.
I stood there leaning on my walking staff. I heard one deputy call to the other "I'm pretty sure it's not him." I was pretty sure he was right, and I said so.
Turns out that there had been a high speed chase six or eight miles to the west, ending with the car off the road in the desert, and the driver fleeing on foot.
I sure wish I could show you the photo!

Sometimes AR gizmo/techno stuff is like Wisconsin weather...wait five minutes and it will change...Been there, done that...save it as a draft...lather, rinse, repeat...Blog on...!
Walking in the desert at night? . .why were you walking in a isolated place?
Ok Mike but later for sure you wil be able to post the photos so we will be watching for them you have set the table !!
It's a plot to keep the Wordless Wednesday posts from posting...
I want to see the photos. Funny story...
Hi Mike, I too am waiting to see the photos. Hopefully, you'll be able to post at a later time.
Hi Mike,
I get the same message! I've uploaded tons of pictures before with no problem, but tonight I'm feeling frustrated by this message and I'm still not as computer saavy as I would like. Do you suppose it's related to activerain and they'll straighten it out? Have you been here a long time and has this happened before? Thanks
Mike great story, but I would be wondering about that other guy after the police left.
I have had that problem as well. Is the picture too large? Try to reduce it. If that doesn't work, rename the picture as something else after you have reduced the size. No larger than 600 px.
Norma,
No; I can't get to the first stage of requesting the photo. The photo is only 179k, saved for Web in Photoshop.
Michael,
I looked in the Monday paper to see if they had something, but didn't find a story.
Kim,
I've been blogging on AR for nearly two years, and I've never seen this particular problem. I expect they're working on it and will fix it soon.
Gabe,
I'll post the photo when I can.
Maureen,
Ditto. Thnks for commenting.
Charlie,
I'll come through for you.
Fernando,
It's where I live. I walk several miles three or four times a week.
Sally & David,
Thanks for being the first to comment; I'm hoping they get it fixed pronto.

Wow Mike, what an interesting walk you had this morning. Having problems uploading photos also this morning.
~ Life is Good
I'm laughing at Maureen's conspiracy theory! I liked your answer Mike, "I was only going four miles an hour." LOL!
laughing again at the "I was only going four miles an hour." laughing out loud, really.
Speechless Sunday morning if photos won't load we'll know for sure if this is just an evil plot to keep members from posting photo only or photo primaily posts...
Mike, I can't wait to see the photos. But why were you walking alone in the desert in the dark? :)
Had an officer pull me over one time. I knew I was speeding... He said, "You kinda looked like someone that we have a warrant out on when I passed you, but I can see that you're not that person."
no I was using Firefox all day and got the error message but I just added a photo.
Mike - I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures! I was unable to post comments until this evening, so perhaps you can upload photos now, or at least soon!
I got a curssor, I got a curssor, I got a cussor! Thank God almighty I got a curssor!
I tried to respond this morning, but had no curssor, I couldn't post eather. I've spent the day in withdrawal.
Wise cracks to a cop and reaching for anything before ask is more dagorous than not watching you step out there in the twilelight.
Bill
I think they were looking for Lane B he has been known to speed in that area.
Hi Mike!

This reminds me of an experience I had. I had to cross a fairly busy street to go to a plating store where I was picking up a faucet I was having brassed. No problem going to the store...but when I crossed the street to go back to my car, I decided to jog across the street since cars were headed my way. Immediately a cop car barrells across the street from around the corner and parks right in front of me. He gets out of the car and asks for my ID. I give it to him and he runs it (of course, nothing). When I ask him why he stopped me, he said he thought I was a prostitute! (sure...in my old jeans and an oversized white button down blouse!). I asked what in the world would have led him to think this...he said I ran from him! I think he had too much time on his hands!
Where have you been? I missed you. I give you lots of credit - you've got nerve walking in the desert at night. What about the tarantulas, scorpions and snakes? Do you think that they go to sleep when the sun goes down? :))
Leolinda,
It's good to see you! Ginny's been down with pneumonia and other stuff for three weeks. I took a break to care for her and keep up with business.
Those desert critters do come out at night; I carry a strong flashlight, wear leather gloves, and have a hiking staff. It's mostly real quiet at night, and it's good for the soul.
Paula,
I think he found you attractive, and wanted a reason to engage you in conversation. (That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.) LOL
Terry,
Who is Lane B? I grew up in the rainforest of South America. You have to paint me a picture.
Bill,
I'm glad you finally got Active Rain working again. We've been waiting...
Myrl,
There you go! How's that for a photo? My wife wanted to know if I asked permission. NOT! He would have said "No."
Maureen,
Thanks for hanging out on my blog all day! LOL
Matt,
There were different issues with each browser. It seems to be fixed now, though.
Judi,
Girls get all the breaks!
Connie,
It's cool at night, and 100 in the daytime. I walk in the desert because that's where I live. It's beautiful at night.
Maureen,
It got a chuckle out of one of the two officers.
Cynthia,
Maureen wasn't the only one thinking conspiracy!
Roy,
Thanks for stopping by. I just happen into stories. It's a curse, but I love it.
Mike in Tucson
thanks for coming through with the photo!
Maureen,
My pleasure to serve you! :)

Mike, I'm sure it is much cooler but more dangerous too! What did they think when you took their picture? LOL
Connie,
The officer never mentioned it. We talked about interest rates for awhile before they left. I'm off for an early morning walk; thanks for coming back to comment.

Hi Mike,
Glad you weren't not the guy they were looking for! Like your wife, the first question that came to mind was "did you get permission to take & post their photo"?
Me, too! And I subscribe to the idea that it's easier to obtain forgiveness than permission. LOL
On a separate note, your comment was Number 13,500! Email me a "snail mail address" and I'll send you congratulatory gourmet brownies with a "thank you" card. I take care of my subscribers in the Rain!

Mike,
That deputy doesn't look like he's convinced you're not a perp! LOL Good thing you had your ID on ya. Jenny might have had to verify your story at the police station! Yikes! How in the world did you manage to get this officer's photo as he's walking up to you? I have to say ... that's not the usual behavior of a 'wanted' man. :)
Mike: Couldn't leave a comment yesterday, AR glitch I s'pose. I am amazed that you were able to get a picture of a police officer coming toward you! Seems to me, you really kept your cool in a what had to be a tense situation.
I assume that you weren't cuffed and taken in for questioning. Sometimes these guys get a little too exited about catching someone, and they assume guilt. I would think that walking desrt roads at night could be a little exiting anyway.
It's a good thing you didn't encounter the fugitive.
No time to read comments, so this may have been said...
Please always walk facing traffic, so you can see what they are doing. Yes, something reflective on the front and back of you!! They will see the flashlight and the reflective. The main thing is you will see them!!
P.S. This applies to daytime walking, too. It's always best if you can see them way down the road and judge if they are awake and alert. (lots of people aren't and don't even see a walker or runner) If they miss seeing a motorcycle...
I would have been in trouble as I don't carry an ID when I walk. Glad you had it with you and things were taken care of quickly. I sure hope he told you have a good night after that.
Mike - Do you know what is so hillarious about that picture? It's that you had the "forethought" to point your camera at the patrol car with officer approaching, because you take blogging more seriously than any trouble you could be encountering. Someone should start a "Blogger Unplugged" group, and present an award to you for that picture:-)
Myrl,
If he had asked me why I was taking his photo, I would have told him about Active Rain. Thanks for commenting! I'm a blogging fool!
Kim,
I always carry ID except in the swimming pool. The officers were real friendly.
Doreen,
Sorry about the SMS Text to landline. I didn't know it would make your phone ring.
Sandy,
That's a thought!
Larry,
Pretty much, walking at night in the desert is peaceful and reflective. I've never had a problem.
Donna,
Thanks for coming back to comment; it was never tense.
Carol,
I think he saw things your way. There's always something to blog about, isn't there?! LOL

Well Mike, I had to come back and see if you posted the photo.
From the photo it looks like the officer has his hand near his holster and the look on his face is well let's just say you were much braver than I would have been. I would have froze, thereby not snapping that great shot!
Cynthia,
He had a sense of humor about the whole thing. I'm likely to see him again; this is a pretty small community.
Mike in Tucson
Mike - I can juse vision the scenario where to police officer asks for your ID and determines you're not the 'guy" and you say, well I'll just take a few shots then LOL. ~Rita
Rita,
I track my mileage using a GPS program on my Blackberry, and it says I "rested" for 13 minutes. "Mind if I take a quick shot?" LOL
Mike in Tucson
Mike - sounds like quite a walk. I like your comment "It's mostly real quiet at night, and it's good for the soul.". I used to walk about 3 miles three or four times a week with my dog and loved it - I need to get back to it.
Sharon,
You will get back into walking when you decide to do it. It's a choice. Thanks for stopping by to comment!
