The Right Perspective: A Short Term Vacation Rental in the Tucson Mountains

Street Art in Tucson Estates II, Tucson, AZ

Street Art is not uncommon in our little community of Tucson Estates II, in Arizona's Tucson Mountains.

Someone created and framed this piece of glass etched with likenesses of more ancient "street art" from the earliest inhabitants of this corner of the world.

What I saw, though, was the mountain behind the frame.  If you're a subscriber for any length of time now, you'll know the mountain's name:  Golden Gate Mountain.

If you're a John Wayne buff, you've seen that particular mountain in every movie of his that also contains a saguaro cactus or two.

We sort of take it for granted, but then again, we're spoiled.

You can be spoiled too.  There are homes in our community available for short term vacation rental.  (The natives are friendly, and we have miles and miles of hiking trails in the 44,000 acre park that surrounds TE-II on three sides.)

Gorgeous pictures. They definately make me want to visit....if I ever find time for a vacation. Arizona has always been a place of interest for me even though I've barely made it out of the state of Missouri.

Mike,

Great pictures and commentary to go along with them. Make sure the Chamber sees your posts. :)

Mike, I'm inadvertently confirming my nickname Queen of Trivia bestowed upon me by my brother many years ago but here goes anyway. :) Steve and I both had the privilege of working for Great Western Savings turned Great Western Bank who first employed John Wayne as spokesperson, followed by Dennis Weaver. I wonder if Golden Gate Mountain appeared in our advertising?

  • I love the desert. But then again, you already know that! kate ford

  • Mike, I'm not sure where I'd look as Great Western was one of many gobbled up by WaMu in the late 90's. But for sure, if I come across advertising trivia related to the mountain, I'll let you know. kate ford

My wife and I love traveling to NM; I understand why you love it.

Kate,

Thanks so much!  Have a great weekend.

Terry,

It's the truth!  And I haven't blogged about the town of Tubac yet.  That's an artist's colony south of us.

Tony,

Maybe your Dad and I should just work on you to come out here!  LOL

Mike - What makes the things you photograph so special is the quality of having something of simple color and beauty, against what would otherwise be considered a parched desert.  I have noticed the art work that seems to thrive there as well!  What a delightful environment you live in.

I grew up in the South Texas desert environment, but I don't think I had a true appreciation of all that the desert has to offer until I went to Big Bend and on through New Mexico, Arizona, and Death Valley in 1973.

Russel,

There's a lot to appreciate in the desert southwest.  Thanks for commenting.

Myrl,

It's a pleasure to see you on my blog!  We do have our share of artists here.  One told me that the light is different here than anywhere she's been.

That's pretty cool.  Is it on private property or is it on public land?  Who did the work?  I knew John Wayne did many movies there, I remember seeing some of the scenery on the Navajo Reservation...

Doreen,

It's on public land.  Don't know who did it, but I like it!
