Just A Little Perspective, My Friend...

Unusual cloud structure in Tucson, AZ

The bond market lost ground this week, and historically low interest rates evaporated.  Tim Geithner stuck his foot in his mouth and the US Dollar lost 1.3% of its value in ten minutes.  Everyone seems to be on eggshells.

So I put on the hiking shoes yesterday, donned a hat to protect my bald spot from the Arizona sun, and set off to clear my head.

The earth still rotates once every 24 hours in the right direction.  Our desert air is clean and the weather is spectacular.  My wife still loves me.  My grandkids think I hung the moon.  I've got food on the table and clients who trust my judgement.  And now you're here sharing a moment of your valuable time with me.

You know?  It's going to be a pretty good day!

Mike:  I think it's very true that you have put all of this nonsense into perspective.  Some days I tend to watch or listen to too much of the shrillness that fills the cable and news arenas.  Adopting your attitude is very healthy.  Thanks for sharing...

I have made it a practice to quit looking at the bonds, stocks and real estate data. I don't need excuses to fail I need a positive attitude to succeed. That my friend is what you have.

Mike, that is sound advice to all as well.  It is important to keep your own wits about when the proverbial @#*% is hitting the fan.  Have a great day.

Mike - I shouldn't gotten my butt outta my office and tried to clear my head yesterday.  Instead, I posted a rant.  I think I will follow your lead today.  I hope my clouds look as good as yours!

You know, Mike, that is the best approach to these "BIG" things that are completely out of our hands - concentrate on those parts of our life that really matter, where we do have some influence.

Have a great day!

And the rain is fall (atleast here in Gaithesburg Md.) and the sun will be out tomorow (if the rain stops but not sure it will).  Someone needs to keep a positve attitude.  Looking forward to your posts in the future.

Mike- I started some IRA accounts which I have done before. I like your post and the clouds are very nice!

Mike - Wouldn't you like to put a sock in some of those guys mouths when they start talking?  Seriously however, the Dow and Nasdaq have done much better the last couple weeks.  For those who have cash parked on the side-line, there are likely some really good bargains out there.  And there's still time to fund your IRA for the 2008 tax return.

Posted by Myrl Jeffcoat, Greater Sacramento Real Estate Agent (GreatWest Realty) about 10 years ago

Myrl,

They don't yet think in terms of "unintended consequences."  Stuff a sock in it!  LOL

I think everyone is looking for good news . Too bad we have to jump at everything that might be bad and react so fast at everything that might be less than wonderful.

Go for a hike more often, Mike. It seems to have brought down the rates again. (And the stock market liked Geithner!)

Posted by Ann Heitland, Retired from Flagstaff Real Estate Sales (Retired from RE/MAX Peak Properties) about 10 years ago

Ann,

Rates are back down today, and better tomorrow!

Terry,

One of the headlines this evening on Bloomberg is "U.S. 30-Year Fixed Mortgage Rate Falls to 4.85 Percent, Lowest on Record"

I'm reacting to that in the morning!  Time to lock in.

Hi Mike - Sounds like last week was a good week for me to go on vacation, although I snuck the occasional glimpse at what the bond market was doing in case something crazy happened. I like to take mind-clearing walks like that, too, and am happy Spring is here to take them in!

Hi Mike—It's amazing creepy that one person can say a few words and thematerial value of currency goes down! I'm not a Pollyanna, however, as you and so many others I find ways to leave to ditch negative and find ways to embrace all the good in my life. When I do that I quickly realize how blessed I am as so many of us are in the RAIN, my family and friends.

Your gorgeous cloud photo is a perfect example of nature's quiet and deep perspective... it says it all! It' a beautiful, clear day today... I'm filled with gratitude and I hope everyone else will as well. Have a wonderful Wednesday!
